Essentially, a secret hotel is an establishment, with available suites, that does not want to market cut prices. In exchange for listing without stating their name, guests economise as much as 50% off their suite when they book through Hotwire and as much as 35% when they book via Lastminute. Once you type in your dates and city, you’ll be given the secret hotels with vacancies. You can then check them against each other by checking their star rating, their location as highlighted on Google Maps and their list of features in the description. Another useful tool is the Tripadvisor rating shown next to every hotel on Lastminute and Hotwire.
So whilst you don’t know the name of the hotel until you’ve booked it, the risk is minimised by the sheer number of facts revealed about every establishment. For instance, if you book a 5 star in Bloomsbury with an award winning bar, how risky can it be? Of course some listings have fewer details, so for some this is more of a gamble.
